Job Boards
The Internet is now truly a VERY rich source of jobs in all markets as new job boards spring up all over the place. As noted above most of the daily papers have websites that contain all of the job listings they publish as do the trade press. A good example being CW Jobs which is the website of Computer Weekly a huge source of excellent jobs for the IT market and is a market specific job board.
Now, obviously, I couldn’t possibly list all of the trade journal websites for reasons that will become clear later. However, what I will do is list the major job boards and also give you an excellent portal that offers links through to many local markets and specialist niches.
So, the main UK job boards (in alphabetical order) are:-
- CV Library
- CV Trumpet
- Fish 4 Jobs
- Jobserve
- Jobsite
- Monster
- Planet Recruit
- Reed – They do have jobs from other agencies and direct clients as well.
- Work Thing
And nowadays Linked In is being used bt most companies and recruitment agencies as a recruitment tool.
I cannot stress enough how important the Internet now is in your job search. I have to say, it should be the first place you look. The reason for this is simply that something like 85% of all jobs available are somewhere on the Internet.
When I first wrote this as a book in 1997, this section didn’t even exist! No-one knew what job boards were and the embryonic services from Jobserve were just surfacing as a CV fax service for Recruitment Agencies. Amazing isn’t it?
