How To Look Good – General Tips

How to look good woman

So, here we go with some general pointers as far as how to look good are concerned.

Try and dress in a way that compliments your build and colouring.  If you are unsure either ask a friend or, if you can afford it, be colour analysed (you may be surprised!).

  1. Spend as much as you can afford on quality clothing.  I firmly believe that it is better to have two or three real quality suits or outfits than five or six cheap ones. Cheap suits or dresses very quickly look what they are, and that is not what you are aiming to portray at an interview.  If you are on a tight budget, gents, then make sure that suit is dry cleaned before any interviews, make sure your shirt is clean and well pressed, and always make sure you put on an expensive tie!  This is an old trick, but it works, the tie draws most attention initially.
  2. If in doubt, go the conservative route, dark suit, white shirt, sensible tie, and for the   ladies, suit (preferably skirt) and blouse.  Avoid any obvious “fashion statements”, or anything overly “loud”.
  3. Keep it simple on the jewellery front.  For the ladies, take it easy, do not overdo it. For the men, avoid anything that is not functional, and certainly anything that is feminine.  That means NO EARRINGS.  In 99% of cases I wouldn’t hire a man with an earring, and most personnel directors I speak to wouldn’t either.  Believe me, it will prejudice your chances!
  4. Avoid anything that will type-cast you. An old school or regimental tie would be an example.
  5. I have already mentioned, buy the best you can afford on the clothes front, the same goes for shoes.  Buying expensive suits and plastic shoes will make you stand out for the wrong reason!  Again, get the best you can afford, and make sure they have been cleaned and shined.
  6. Make sure your clothes not only fit, but look like they fit, and you are comfortable in them.  Ill fitting clothes look awful.  And, if you feel uncomfortable, you will not perform to the best of your ability in an interview.  Anything that puts undue pressure on you is to be avoided, at all costs!

In the next section we’ll at your health! Ooo, touchy…
